Slack shortcuts to work with Incident Response

The Incident Response application connects to Slack so that your team can work together more efficiently. Use shortcuts to take actions in another service without leaving Slack.

How to access Slack shortcuts


While this integration with a third-party product is supported, the documentation here is based upon information provided by that third-party. More current information about the operation of that third-party’s system may be available from them directly.

Slack shortcuts Action

Global shortcuts — Shortcuts that you can use anywhere in Slack from the shortcuts menu or search results.

Way to access global shortcut.

  1. From a channel or direct message (DM), click the Slack shortcuts icon (The Slack shortcuts icon.).
  2. Search for the Lightstep Incident Response app.
  3. Select the shortcut.
  4. Enter the required information.
  5. Click Submit.

Message shortcuts — Shortcuts that you can use from any messages.

Way to access message shortcut.

  1. Hover over a message in Slack.
  2. Click the more actions icon (More actions icon.) and select the message shortcut from the menu.
    Note: If you don't see the shortcut that you're looking for, click More message shortcuts to view a complete list.
  3. Select the shortcut.
  4. Enter the required information.
  5. Click Submit.

Built-in Incident Response Slack shortcuts

Shortcuts Description
Add Work Notes Add work notes to your alert.
Note: Shortcut work notes can only be added of an open alert or incident. This list is limited to 100 records.
Create Incident Create an incident.
Note: To create an incident, atleast one active service is required in Incident Response.
