Escalate incidents to Jira

Escalate incidents from Incident Response to Jira.

Before you begin

Role required: Responder, Manager, or Administrator

  • You must enable Escalate incidents to Jira option while setting up the Jira integration. See Configure escalation of incidents to Jira.

  • You must add the Priority field to the issue types that you want to use in your Jira project.
    1. Navigate to your project in Jira.
    2. From your project's sidebar, select Project settings > Issue types.
    3. Select an issue type that you want to use in Incident Response.
    4. Select Priority from the PREVIOUSLY-CREATED FIELDS list.
    5. Click Save changes.
    Repeat the steps for all the issue types you want to use with Incident Response. The issue type Subtask is not supported in Incident Response.


  1. Log in to Lightstep Incident Response.
  2. Navigate to Incidents and select the incident that you want to escalate to Jira.
  3. Click Escalate to and select Jira.

  4. In the Escalate incident to Jira dialog box:
    1. From the Jira Project list, select the project in Jira under which you want to create the issue.
    2. From the Issue Type list, select the type of issue that you want the incident to be escalated as.
      Note: The issue type Subtask is not supported in Incident Response.
    3. Click Escalate to Jira.
      Note: An incident can be escalated to Jira only once.
    Add project and issue type.


An issue with the type you selected gets created in Jira. You can see the Jira number in the incident. The following fields from the incident are synchronized with the Jira issue:
  • Short description
  • Description
  • Priority
  • State
  • Comments
  • Work notes
Note: If you close the issue in Jira, the incident will not be closed in Incident Response. A comment is added to the incident to update you of its closure in Jira. You have to manually resolve the incident in Incident Response.
