Configure the webhook in Instana

Configure webhook endpoints so that Instana can use the endpoint to communicate with Incident Response.

Procedure

  1. Log in to your Instana account.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Alert Channels.
  3. Click Add Alert Channel and select Generic Webhook.
  4. In the Create Generic Webhook Alert Channel form, fill in the fields:
    Field Description
    Name Name for the alert channel.
    Webhook URLs Webhook URL copied from Incident Response.
    Create an alert channel.
  5. Click Create.
  6. Optional: Click Test Channel to test the webhook connection.
    This sends an alert with OK severity to Lightstep Incident Response.

What to do next

Add the alert channel to the alerts you want Incident Response to handle. Alert can be created either from settings or as smart alerts which are application specific.

Alert from settings:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Alerts.
  2. Create a new alert or edit an existing one.
  3. Select the event types and scopes for the alert.
  4. Add the alert channel created for Incident Response.Alert from settings.
  5. Click Save.

Smart Alerts

  1. From the navigation panel, click Websites and select the website which is monitored.
  2. Click Smart Alerts and then click ADD SMART ALERT.
  3. Select the blueprint for the alert, for example, Unexpectedly High Number Of Page Loads.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select the scope and click Next.
  6. Click Select Alert Channels and select the alert channel created for Incident Response.Smart alert.
  7. Click Create.

Closing an Instana alert

Instana doesn't provide closing payloads for change and offline events. They must be manually closed. To close the alerts, follow the steps given in Close an alert.
