Install the Incident Response CLI

Install the Incident Response CLI on a Mac, Windows, or Linux machine.

Before you begin

The latest version of the Incident Response CLI is 1.1.0. To find your installed version and see if you must update, run lightstep version.

Installing the Incident Response CLI requires:

  • Admin rights to install software on your machine.
  • Software to extract or unzip the downloaded package.
Available for the following operating systems:
  • Mac
  • Windows
  • Linux

Role required: Responder, Manager, or Administrator

Install the Incident Response CLI on Mac

Install Incident Response CLI on a Mac OS using the installer.

Before you begin

You must have an Apple-supported version of 64-bit Mac OS.

Procedure

  1. Log in to Incident Response.
  2. Click the profile icon ( The Profile icon) and then select CLI for Lightstep Incident Response.
  3. From the Command Line Interface (CLI) download page, click Download.
  4. Extract the OS-specific installers.
  5. Open the lightstep-1.1.0-osx-installer file.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    When prompted, ensure the Add to PATH option is selected. This option requires root account access.
  7. Verify that the installation is successful by using the following commands:
    $ which lightstep
    
    /usr/local/bin/lightstep
    $ lightstep version
    
    {
     "extensions": {},
     "lightstep": "1.1.0"
    }

Install the Incident Response CLI on Windows

Install Incident Response CLI on a Windows OS using the installer.

Before you begin

You must have a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or later.

Procedure

  1. Log in to Incident Response.
  2. Click the profile icon ( The Profile icon) and then select CLI for Lightstep Incident Response.
  3. From the Command Line Interface (CLI) download page, click Download.
  4. Extract the OS-specific installers.
  5. Open the lightstep-1.1.0-windows-x64-installer.exe file.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    By default, the CLI installs to C:\Program Files\Lightstep CLI.
  7. To confirm the installation, check the version in the command line using the following command:
    C:\>lightstep version
    
    {
     "extensions": {},
     "lightstep": "1.1.0"
    }

    If Windows is unable to find the program, close and reopen the command prompt window to refresh the path.

Install the Incident Response CLI on Linux

Install Incident Response CLI on a Linux machine using the installer.

Before you begin

You must have a 64-bit version of a recent distribution of CentOS or Ubuntu.

Procedure

  1. Log in to Incident Response.
  2. Click the profile icon ( The Profile icon) and then select CLI for Lightstep Incident Response.
  3. From the Command Line Interface (CLI) download page, click Download.
  4. Extract the OS-specific installers.
  5. Open the lightstep-1.1.0-linux-x64-installer.run file.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    When prompted, ensure the Add to PATH option is selected. This option requires root account access.
  7. Verify that the installation is successful by using the following commands:
    $ which lightstep
    
    ~/Lightstep CLI/bin/lightstep
    
    $ lightstep version
