Create a notification destination for an alert in Lightstep Observability

Create a notification destination so that you can receive alerts in Incident Response.

Before you begin

Ensure you have generated a webhook endpoint for Lightstep Observability.

Role required: Responder, Manager, or Administrator

  1. Log in to Lightstep using your Lightstep e-mail address.
  2. In the navigation pane, click Alerts.
    The Alerts page.
  3. Click the Notification destinations tab.
    The Notification destinations tab.
  4. Click Create a destination and select Webhook.
    Create a destination. Select webhook.
  5. On the Create a webhook destination form, perform the following actions:
The Create a webhook destination form.
    • Name: Enter a name for the destination.
    • URL: Enter the webhook URL you have already created.
  6. Click Create.
Test the newly created notification destination.

The notification destination is created. You will need this destination name while creating an alert.

  7. From the list of destinations, click Test for the destination you have created.
Once you create a notification destination, you can test whether it is configured properly. Lightstep Observability sends a test message without any specific alert information. This is to verify whether a connection is being established between Lightstep Observability and Incident Response, to send events. An alert is not created in Incident Response.
    Notification configuration is successful.
  8. Click Close.
