Create alert conditions

Create alert conditions to describe a monitored data source and also define the behavior of that data source that will be considered a violation.

Before you begin

Ensure you have an alert policy in New Relic.

Role required: Responder, Manager, or Administrator

  1. Under the Alert Conditions tab, click Create a condition.
    Create alert condition.

    The New condition page appears.

  2. Select the type of condition.
    For example, Infrastructure. You can create conditions for your resources directly in Infrastructure.

  3. On the form, fill in the fields.

    Field Description
    Name this alert condition Name for the alert condition.
    Describe this condition Brief description of the condition.
    Choose an alert type Type of alert for which you want to receive notifications.
    Narrow down hosts Additional filters to narrow down hosts.
    Define thresholds Thresholds that determine what will trigger a notification or violation.

    A violation occurs when the entity monitored by an alert condition reports a value that crosses the thresholds defined in that condition.

    Alert policy Alert policy for which you are defining conditions.
    Condition status Option to enable the conditions of the policy.
    Runbook Full path for your runbook URL or a URL to internal wiki page.
    Violation time limit Duration after which the open violations are closed.
  4. Click Create.
    The alert conditions are defined for the alert policy.
    Alert condition is created.
