Configure Lightstep Observability stream-based alerts

Configure webhook endpoint in Lightstep Observability so that Incident Response can communicate with Lightstep Observability using the endpoint.

Before you begin

Ensure you have created a notification destination.

  1. Log in to Lightstep using your Lightstep e-mail address.
  2. In the navigation pane, click Alerts.
    The Alerts form.
  3. Click Create an alert.
    The Choose an alert type window appears.

  4. Click Go to streams.

  5. Click Create Stream.

  6. Enter the following information:
    • Name: Enter a name for the stream alert.
    • Service: Select the service on which you want to apply the stream.
      Note: You can apply any number of services.
    • Operation: Select the operations to be performed on the service.
  7. Click +Add attribute filter and add the attribute filter condition.
    You can click Run Query to view the number of spans the query returns.
  8. Click Create Stream.

  9. Open the stream record and click Create an alert to create an alert for this stream.

  10. On the form, enter the required details.

    Field Action to be taken
    SIGNAL Select the signal type. The available values are as follows:
    • Latency
    • Error percentage
    • Operation rate
    NAME Enter the name of the alert.
    THRESHOLD Select the threshold.
    EVALUATION WINDOW Enter a value for the evaluation window.
    Notification destinations
    Add a destination Destination where the alerts need to be sent.
    • INTEGRATION: Select Webhook.
    • DESTINATION: Select the already created notification destination.
    • UPDATE INTERVAL: Enter the amount of time that the tool waits before sending new updates or alerts.
  11. Click Create.
    An alert is created.
    Alerts get created when conditions match. You can see the alerts in Incident Response.
